Travertine – Building Renovation for Demonstration Plant

PROJECT INFORMATION
Nichols Construction Team was honored to support Travertine in the renovation of their new Demonstration Plant, located in Ontario, NY.
Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, Travertine is a pioneering climate-tech company led by an extraordinary team of engineers and scientists dedicated to scaling practical solutions to climate change and enabling cleaner production of critical elements.
For this project, Nichols Construction Team was selected to lead the transformation of an existing facility into a high-performance, process-ready demonstration site tailored to Travertine’s operations. The renovation scope included upgrading the existing electrical service, relocating steel bracing, and rebuilding the existing concrete ramp. Our Team also provided a steel portable ramp, saw-cut concrete for new underground plumbing, and made final plumbing and electrical connections to large equipment skids engineered in Canada. NCT coordinated the rigging and placement of these specialized skids, installed one new overhead door, and implemented acoustical upgrades throughout the process and office areas to meet operational requirements. This renovation created a tailored environment to support cutting-edge environmental technology and facilitate real-time testing and validation.
About the Travertine Process
The Travertine Core Process enables carbon-negative extraction of critical elements without producing waste. This process combines salt-splitting electrolysis, direct air capture, and metathesis (precipitation) to convert waste calcium sulfate (gypsum) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) into sulfuric acid and calcium carbonate—two valuable industrial products. This Demonstration plant serves as a critical milestone in validating Travertine’s technology with commercial-scale equipment.
